Vacant academic positions: ASSISTANT PROFESSOR POSITION IN INDUSTRIAL PROCESS ENERGY ENGINEERING



Job description
We are looking for a person with a PhD in the field of modeling and testing unit operations of strategic importance for advanced industrial biorefinery process systems. Examples of such systems include falling film evaporators for the pulping industry or catalytic cracking of black liquor derived feedstocks for production of transportation fuels.
The holder of the position will be expected to develop and coordinate experimental research activities connected to the group’s experimental infrastructure, in collaboration with senior staff and with industrial partners. The holder of the position will also be expected to contribute to supervision of PhD students working in this area.
The holder of the position will be expected to contribute to the group’s education activities, including teaching in the subject area of Energy Technology and Design of Industrial Energy Equipment, and supervising MSc thesis project work. The allocation of work load will be around 80% for research and 20% for education activities.
Assistant Professor is a position that offers the opportunity to qualify for higher research positions, both in academia and other research institutions. The appointment is for two + two years of full-time employment. An assistant professor is expected to reach the Swedish docent level (in Swedish "oavlönad docent") within four years. After two years progress is assessed.

Required qualifications
The applicant should have a Ph.D. degree (normally completed at most five years before the deadline for application) preferably in in Chemical Process Engineering or another area that is relevant for the position. In addition, a successful candidate should have:
  • Pedagogical experience
  • Experience in the research field described above, where good knowledge of unit operation processes in the pulp and paper industry is a merit.
  • Previous experience of industrial or pilot scale experimental work is a prerequisite for this position.
  • Postdoctoral university experience or experience gained from qualified research in industry is highly valued.
English is our working language for research. Both Swedish and English are used in undergraduate courses, while graduate courses are taught in English. For non-Swedish speaking applicants, it is recommended to learn Swedish within a few years.

  4. Complete list of publications
  5. Plans for future work within the area of the announced position, both scientific and educational, if appointed
  6. Two reference persons who can be contacted by Chalmers (describe association with them and give their contact addresses)
  7. Copies of the applicant's best scientific publications (not more than 5)
  8. Copies of a maximum of 5 other publications (such as pedagogy, and popular science) in support of pedagogical and other merits
