The Electrical Engineering Department at The Petroleum Institute in Abu Dhabi, UAE is seeking applications for four positions asResearch/Teaching Associate in one or more of the following areas:
1. Applied Signal Processing. The candidate would participate in a research project focusing on high voltage insulation condition monitoring for electric machines. The monitoring is based on partial discharge (PD) data analysis using signal processing methods. Preferred applicant must have strong background in statistical signal analysis, data mining, and DSP based micro-controllers.
2. Power quality, power electronics and electric drives. The candidate would participate in a research project focusing on related topics. Preferred applicants must have strong background in Power Quality, Power Electronics and Electric Drives studies and design.
3. Insulation condition monitoring of power cables, transformers, GIS and generators. The candidate should have research and industrial experience in HV tests, insulation assessment and computer programming skills such as LabView and Visual Basic.
4. Power System Stability and Control. The candidate should have experience to work on research projects in the area of power system stability and control of industrial power plants and to perform system design and studies.
5. Advanced fault diagnosis in complex petrochemical systems. The candidate will work on an interdisciplinary research project aimed at developing data-driven state-of-the-art process monitoring technology and its in-field evaluation. The successful candidate should have a solid understanding of statistics and preferably some understanding of process data chemometrics. Programming skills in C++ or C Sharp are desirable.
6. Instrumentation and Measurements. The candidate should have experience in the area of wireless networks and smart sensors to work on research projects with focus on the Oil/Gas industry.
Qualifications: Applicants should possess an earned PhD in electrical engineering or a closely related field and must have demonstrated experience in the corresponding research areas. Professional communications skills, both written and oral, are essential. Additional responsibilities of this position include working with undergraduate and graduate students on related research projects.
The Petroleum Institute (PI) was created in 2001 with the goal of establishing itself as a world-class institution in engineering education and research in areas of significance to the oil and gas and the broader energy industries. The PI's sponsors and affiliates include Abu Dhabi National Oil Company and several major international oil companies, namely Shell, BP, Jodco and Total. The campus has modern instructional laboratories and classroom facilities and is now in the planning phase of three major research centers on its campus. Salary/Benefits: Salary and benefits will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The total compensation package includes a tax-free 12-month base salary, and a benefits allowance that covers relocation, housing, initial furnishings, utilities, transportation (automobile purchase loan), health insurance, child(ren) education, end-of-service benefit and annual leave travel.
