Job description |
The Department of Energy Technology seeks a professor in the field of transmission power systems especially related to the use of High Voltage AC (HVAC) cables in the future transmission network, a scenario, which is highly relevant due to the Danish Cable Act stating that almost all transmission lines at the 420 and 170 kV level should be cabled within the next ten years. This includes the overall planning of a transmission network based solely on HVAC cables or hybrid solutions with a mixture of both cables and overhead lines. Such planning is necessary to meet the demands of tomorrow related to the connection of i.e. large offshore wind farms and the management of transmission power flow originating from the market demands. Major specific research areas for cable transmission networks include: Electromagnetic transients – analysis, modeling and simulation plus measurement techniques for a solid verification of results, insulation coordination studies, and High Voltage issues related to the estimation of lifetime and protection philosophies including WAM. Denmark has a leading position regarding a comprehensive use of cables in the transmission network and the professor position has the main purpose of keeping Denmark at the forefront of this development of a modern transmission power system. The position requires research qualifications at Doctor level.
Teaching will primarily be in the area of Electrical Power Systems with main focus on high voltage engineering (both theoretical and experimental), power system protection, overvoltage protection and fundamentals of power systems, especially related to our Master Programs in Electrical Power Systems and High Voltage (EPSH) and Wind Power Systems (WPS). Additionally supervision of Master students and PhD students will play an important role.
Appointment to Professor with special responsibilities is a temporary position with focus on specific projects as well as ordinary professorship duties. The specific projects may take from three to five years with the possibility of further prolongation for up to three years. The position will normally be established for the purpose of appointing particularly talented preferably younger, researchers with the ability to develop a promising academic field at an international level.
At the end of the period, the special resonsibilities are discontinued and the employee in question transfers to a postion of associate professor at the university.
You may obtain further professional information from Associate Professor Birgitte Bak-Jensen, +45 9940 9274, bbj@et.aau.dk
