FUNCTION OF POSITION: Adapt to new and changing situations and demonstrate a positive attitude. Demonstrate respect for students; understand learning styles and apply understanding to institution-related activities; demonstrate integrity and promote diversity and open communications. Fifteen credit hours a semester constitute a standard load. Course assignments may be late afternoon, evening, Saturday, and at branch campuses or satellite centers. Position is subject to all terms and provisions of the Joliet Junior College faculty contract.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Teach a minimum of 15 credit hour load per semester in Electrical/Electronic Automated Systems (EEAS), Electrical Engineering Technology (EET), Heating and Air Conditioning (HVAC), AEC program (Architecture, Engineering and Construction) and Sustainability.
2. Work closely with other instructors and special programs and services within the college to determine placements, curriculum, and academic support.
3. Participate in course development, assessment, and planning activities.
4. Provide hands on and theoretical training in all areas and aspects of the alternate energy and sustainable management.
5. Provide hands on experience working with industry data for evaluating the efficient implementation of mechanical systems.
6. Be willing to teach online and/or blended courses.
7. Assist students with academic advising.
8. Possess and maintain a thorough knowledge of the subject matter necessary to the assigned courses.
9. Participate in appropriate departmental meetings and recruitment activities; serve on committees.
10. Demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and learning.
11. Demonstrate strong understanding and commitment to the community college mission.
12. Teach classes during non-traditional times (evenings and weekends) and at other campus sites as needed.
13. Meet job requirements specified in the Carl D. Perkins Vocational Education Act of 2006.
14. Meet other contractual obligations as spelled out in the Joliet Junior College faculty contract.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential responsibilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelors in Electrical Engineering, Environment Engineering, Energy Management, Mechanical Engineering, Sustainability or related technical discipline.
2. Two years of work experience in the energy, sustainable or related industry.
3. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
4. Expertise in appropriate technologies for instruction.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Master's Degree in related technical discipline
2. College teaching experience, particularly in a community college.
3. Five or more years of industry related work experience.
4. Experience in course development and assessment, planning, quality and accreditation processes.
5. Experience in teaching online and/or using course management programs.
6. Experience in course development and assessment, planning, quality and accreditation processes, and committee service.
7. Experience with traditional and non-traditional students from diverse backgrounds.
SALARY RANGE: Placement on salary schedule is dependent on qualifications.
Qualifications include education and related work experience.
